In this post, I’m going to show you how to add texture packs in Minecraft 1.17.1. It is actually very straightforward, but if you’ve never added a texture pack before, it can be a bit tricky.
Luckily for you, Minecraft has made it much easier to add texture packs – now known as resource packs – in the past few years. You can now simply drag a texture pack file into your game’s resource pack menu to install it, whereas earlier, you had to find a specific hidden folder on your PC to manually copy the resource pack to.
1.17.1 Texture Pack
The texture pack we’ll be using for this tutorial is called Faithful, and it’s a simple, 32-pixel texture pack. It looks quite a bit like the vanilla Minecraft textures, but with increased detail. What texture packs do, is change the look and feel of Minecraft. This can vary from simple changes to some blocks to a complete redesign of Minecraft, making it feel like a totally different game.

Once you’re in Minecraft, go to the Pause menu, or click Options from the Main menu. Now select Resource Packs and you should see to column, each with one default pack inside. One is Programmer Art (classic Minecraft textures) and the other Selected one is Default (default Minecraft textures).
Use the link above to download Faithful, once it’s finished downloading, be sure to drag the file into the Resource Packs menu in Minecraft. Do NOT unpack the file, even if your PC suggests you should. Now that you’ve dragged the 1.17.zip (in case you downloaded Faithful) in to Minecraft, it should prompt you the question, whether you want to install the pack. Click ‘yes’ and move the pack over to the right side using the gray arrow. After that, it will show up on the right side, under Selected.
To wrap it up, click ‘Done’ and wait for Minecraft to load your resource pack. If your pack includes new menu styles as well, you may see the look and sound of your game buttons may have changed, this is normal. All there’s left to do is to hop in to a world, and enjoy your new texture pack!
