Best video settings for Minecraft 1.18.1

Some of the most important settings to fix lag in Minecraft 1.18.1 are render distance, simulation distance and graphics. The recommended settings for render distance is to set it as low as possible. The lowest value is 2, however, this may make Minecraft very hard to play. In case 2 does not work for you, try setting it to 4. Anything beyond that will cost you lots of FPS. The same goes for simulation distance. It determines how many chunks should be kept active, even if you can’t see them. This affects farms and redstone contraptions in chunks far away from the player. Setting this is to 5 chunks will give the best FPS. However, this also means that your farms won’t work anymore if you move more than 5 chunks away from them.

The graphics setting should always be set to Fast. This will reduce the graphics quality of Minecraft – yes, that is actually possible – and in return give you more FPS. In case you’re wondering what other settings are recommended, check out this video:

Allocate RAM to Minecraft

In this video, I will show you how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft 1.18.1, to make the game run smoother. Sometimes low FPS or huge lag spikes are caused by too little RAM being allocated to Minecraft. If you allocate more RAM to Minecraft, this usually works as a great FPS fix! The Java argument you want to change to Minecraft is -Xmx(something)G. ‘G’ represents the amount of gigabytes you want to allocate to Minecraft. Note: I do not recommended allocating more than half of your total memory to Minecraft!

Allocating more RAM can sometimes fix all lag issues you’ve ever had!

If you need even more FPS, you can also use Optifine to boost your FPS. Check out this post to learn how to install Optifine for Minecraft 1.18 and 1.18.1.
Sodium is a great alternative, which for some players works even better than Optifine. Check out the video down below to learn how to install Sodium:
